Albert Adomah an injury doubt for Middlesbrough reunion

Ghanaian winger Albert Adomah is a major doubt for Aston Villa’s game against his former club Middlesbrough on Saturday after suffering an injury scare this week.

The 30-year-old has been in scintillating form for Steve Bruce’s side this season, scoring 12 goals in what threatens to be his most productive year in front of goal.

Adomah, the shining light of a Villa season that has been up and down so far, joined Boro in August 2013 and was part of the 2015/16 squad that clinched promotion to the Premier League.

But the ex- Boro fans’ favourite could be denied his Riverside reunion at the weekend.

He was forced off during the first half of Villa’s 2-1 defeat at Brentford on Boxing Day with a dead leg, and is now being monitored by club staff – who are reluctant to rush him back quickly and risk a further setback.

Adomah’s possible absence is a further blow for Bruce, who finds himself under pressure ahead of his side’s trip to the North-east after a winless December that has seen the club plummet down the standings.

Aston Villa have dropped out of the top six entirely after their latest league slide and will kick-off at the Riverside below Boro in the table.
